Rockwood

From early to late, The Rockwood Music Hall is the place to hang out this evening.  The night gets going at 7pm with Kevin Gordon.  I don’t know that much about Kevin, but I do know that Charlie Faye thinks the world of him, Rolling Stone says hes “a juke-joint professor emeritus” and those are good enough recommendations for me.

Speaking of Charlie Faye, she’s next up at 8pm.  If you haven’t heard Charlie yet, know that her music ranges from folk-rock, 60s tinged pop, Americana, country and ballads.  It’s all well written and played and sung with feeling.  She has a new record which she is finishing up and her last record, Travels with Charlie was a top 10 record on the Americana Music Association’s Radio Chart.

Freddie Stevenson takes over the stage at 9pm.  Freddie’s original music has a little bit of everything in it including folk and English music hall, and he’s an engaging performer. If you’d like a taste of what’s in store for you just check out this video of Baby I Own This Town from a recent show.

Freddie finishes up at 10pm.  Whatever you do, just make sure that you are at The Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2 at 11pm, when this month’s installment of Full Vinyl gets underway.  Full Vinyl is the series in which musicians who play the Rockwood get together late at night and cover songs according to a theme.  Tonight’s theme is Motown vs. Stax.  Tony Maceli is the ring leader and ring master of Full Vinyl, and he has rounded up a huge cast of wonderful musicians to play and sing tonight.

Kevin Gordon (7pm), Charlie Faye (8pm), Freddie Stevenson (9pm),  The Rockwood Music Hall,196 Allen Street between Houston and Stanton Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit), No Cover (but a contribution for the musicians is highly recommended)

Full Vinyl, Volume 14: Motown Vs. Stax, The Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2,196 Allen Street between Houston and Stanton Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit), No Cover (but a contribution for the musicians is highly recommended), 11pm
